Piracy

lol, Halo Reach its apparently available to download on torrent sites 3 weeks before its release!

On a more serious note (only because its PS3), some fuckers have figured out how to pirate PS3 games. I wont provide a link as Im sure you all know by now. I think its a testament to sony enginering that it took them over 3 years to crack the fucker. Probably doesnt matter anyways, sony will identify the culprits and ban them from online gameplay (similar to what xbox did a few months ago).

What are your views on piracy?

Personally, I have no qualms in downloading movies/tvshows as I think whats the difference between that and recording it when its on TV. The exception is when its a newly released movie to which I then think if the movie is any good I will most likely want it in my dvd collection. Also, I spend a fair amount on the movies anyways.

However, with games I have never wanted to pirate stuff. I could have with the wii, but chose not too. I guess its because I likecollecting the damn things. The exception to that rule is the DS in which case I have an R4 chip. I just refuse to pay that much money for a DS game! Contradiction I know.

I'll download tv shows and movies that I don't really want to own physically. If I enjoy a movie (Inglourious Basterds, for example) I will buy it on bluray.

I like collecting games so pirating them is a no for me.

Also, with the pirated PS3's - as soon as you go online with them you get an error. An error which Sony is aware of, and when Sony see that error they will ban that user.
What is the point of a PS3 if you cannot go online. A PS3 that never improves (via updates) would be shit.

Exact same here.
Although with TV shows I usually end up owning the DVD.

I will also download music by an artist i'm not aware of illegally.
The Decemberists for example, I then went out and bought a few albums.

I'd draw the line at video games

There's way too much music/film to afford it all. And it's not like game devs can make money from live performances, ticket sales and merchandise

The only Albums ive bought recently are local NZ music. As for the rest. DOWNLOADED,
Ive never bought software ever yet i have a sh!t loads...
Ill only buy a movie on Blue-Ray if i really want it...
As for games, well the xbox and PS2 have a modchips with HDDs...
But the ps3 chip, meh, online play is where its at, so wouldnt take the risk of using it...

I was watching the karate kid (2010) on my ps3 which I had downloaded recently and after about 15 mins the volume kept on muting intermittently and came up with some text saying that this movie was protected by cinavia! I did a google search on it and apparently its designed specifically to counter people playing pirated movies on their ps3.

First time its happened to me! Anyone else had this problem?

lol, didn't matter, I downloaded another copy within 20 minutes and was back into it.

Never had that problem. I downloaded compressed mkv files and stream from my laptop to my ps3 which automatically converts them. The quality is best when using wired as it can transfer at a higher bitrate.
