The feeling of first getting a PS3
Anyone remember the feeling they got when they first got their brand spanking new PS3? the wonders and thoughts of what the beast could do.
I remember when the console was announced i was stoked. Couldn't wait to get me one. It took me about a year after they came out but i managed to buy one in the end. About a month before i got it, i was looking up all the available titles on offer and was getting super excited over playing all these next gen games.
When the big day came i had 2 games. They were Ratchet and clank: ToD and motorstorm. I sunk more hours into those two games than any others. I was around 13/14 when i got mine so i was pretty excited when a game i was really looking forward to was on the brink of release. I think the whole prospect of seeing what new games, with their beautiful graphics and epic story lines is one of my fondest memories. Also the fact that i was one of the few people i knew at school to actually have one haha.
so how about you guys? Anything which stands out in your ps3 past?

Re: The feeling of first getting a PS3
I got mine for Christmas in 2007 just after spending 9 weeks in Hospital for a broken leg ( second time I broke it)
A family friend of ours got given a ps3 by his wife cos he was bored at home so his wife was at the shops and randomly
bought him a ps3 (rich fuckers!!! lol)
When I heard about him getting one I was like OMG cos it was soo advanced (to me anyway)
I started to get my dad to buy me ps3 magazines while I was stuck in hospital, this was when I first saw an add for Warhawk. i said that
I wanted to get this game cos it looked cool and had multiplayer (didn't realise it was online though)
Once I got out of hospital I kind of just left the ps3 idea cos I was finally home after 9 weeks in hospital..
It got to christmas time and I opened one of my presents and there it was, a brand spanking 40 gb ps3. I was soo stoked about it.
The game my parents gave to me with it was Spiderman 3 or something else to do with spiderman. I was pretty happy but I sucked balls
at it. Over the next few days I bought myself a new tv and the game warhawk. When I first tried warhawk I couldn't play it cos it was online and I didn't understand any shit on how to connect it up. It wasn't until New Years Day that I got it online and first played warhawk.
So I have had my ps3 for almost 3 years now I have enjoyed every minute of it.. haha

Re: The feeling of first getting a PS3
I bought a fat 60GB for $1000 at midnight day 1. Bought Motorstorm and Resistance with it too.
Tom was there with me, but he didn't buy one then. We went back to my joint to set it up. Put in Resistance first and I remember taking a 5 second video of putting my first disc in a PS3.
I'm now on my fourth PS3, and have bought 90+ games since launch.

Also, I had my eye on Warhawk well before the release of the PS3. Dylan Jobe, David Jaffe, Scott Campbell, Incognito, Twisted Metal, God of War and War of the Monsters all drew me to Warhawk (all those things I listed are related to WH).
Warhawk was originally going to be a launch title, having both single player and mp. It was delayed so they could remove SP and focus on MP.

Re: The feeling of first getting a PS3
Cool thread.
I bought a PS3 just before the 80 gig versions (and price decrease!) came out. I had a Wii for a while then and although I love Nintendo core games, I was really disappointed with the graphics and lack of hard core games. I was up in the air over wether to get a PS3 or 360, but MGS4 being an exclusive on the PS3 I went for it.
It was the first year I began full time work and I had the money easily, but spending $1000 on a console was huge for me! I got Resistence, Motorstorm and an extra controller. I sold motorstorm, but I liked resistance. The new and cheaper PS3's came out a week later. lol.
I have enjoyed every minute of it and have no regrets. I have bought many games for it and I have been lucky in that none of my PS3's (I have 2) have broken down.
I never knew of Warhawk until Azza told me to get it.

Re: The feeling of first getting a PS3
My brother bought a PS3 on Launch day, and I was just as happy as he was when we were setting it up haha...
But when I bought mine like a year later, it wasnt anything special by then ...
Infact, I bought the PS3 just for Warhawk, because everytime I had to use his, I had to use it on his time...
And that didnt suit with me
And when I first got my LCD and HDMI...
OoOh the joy!

Re: The feeling of first getting a PS3
Never could afford a PS3 in South Africa at launch but when I came to Hong Kong almost 4 years ago I immediately, after my first pay check, got a 40GB fat ps3, HDTV, a surround sound system and motostorm + warhawk. With no import taxes over here the PS3 was 1/2 the price compared to back home. Currently on my 2nd system and about 70 titles.

I got my console in the Christmas of 2008.
Nothing much else to say - except that I want my own but I'm not shelling out money to get myself one and then essentially letting my brother have a free ps3..
I did buy the Playstation Move today however and it is a ton of fun; I enjoyed the Wii and can see myself spending many hours using it and in the foreseeable futures in many different game genres.
