Foreign Films

Post  mrcrowley24 on Wed Oct 13, 2010 9:45 pm

The last few years I have really been getting it foreign films, there are quite a few gems out there. Granted I really know of the mainstream one's. Does anyone have some good one's to recommend?

I have seen

A prophet - French Ganster movie set in prison. Quite gritty and got lots of acclaim.

Che - Set in Cuba/Bolivia and about Che the freedom fighter. Its in 2 parts, but I enjoyed the first part better.

Downfall - About Hitler's last few days in his bunker. Quite an eye opener and I do recommend it.

Dragon Tattoo movies - So far 2 have been released with English subtitles and the 3rd shouldn't be far away. You HAVE to watch these, especially before hollywood does some shit remake. Very gritty.

I have seen more, but those one's come to mind. I also want to see mesrine, 3 colours trilogy, amalie, chocolat, city of god, lebanon.

When I was at uni i watched countless foreign films and loved them! The development of character in European films is rarely ever equaled in hollywood films. I enjoy films that are more about people and relationships rather than action.

Pans Labrynth was awesome! Forgot about that one. Its a shame that that director won't be doing the next Lord of the Rings. He was originally going to but gave gave up after repeated delays. Im sure Peter Jackson will do another good job at it.

On a related note to LOTR, I met Christopher Lee the other day!

It's not. But due to my lack of knowledge of foreign films it made the cut.

I have seen Chocolat though. Wasn't too bad

Someone recommended a South Korean film called old boy. I did a wiki on it and its part of trilogy, looks pretty good.
