Best SP game you've played?
Whats everyones favourite single player game or story?
Mine would have to be the very first ratchet and clank. Although it wasn't the most intensive, deep and heart wrenching story, it was excellently executed and really set the scene for the universe it was played out in. The gameplay was really great and the fact that you only had 4 lives on the first play through made it that much more difficult.

Oblivion immediately comes to mind.
Also Shadow of the Colossus.
There are heaps actually, if I think about it.

Re: Best SP game you've played?
It's hard to describe.
Basically, you play as a guy who wants to revive his girlfriend from death. He goes to some mysterious building in some desert, and a voice from above tells him that if he finds and kills all 16 evil guardians (the colossi) he will be able to save his girl.
That's the story in the briefest of descriptions.
In the game, you roam around an open world finding, and then killing, 16 huge bosses. So the game is just 16 boss fights, but the best boss fights ever made. The game is more of an art film rather than a game, in a way. You really grow attached to the characters, especially your horse.
The game is simple yet so inventive. Each colossus is so unique and amazing you can't help but stop just to admire them.
The games difficulty comes in the way of puzzles, which are basically trying to find ways to climb each colossus. The music is spot on too.
From wiki
Honestly, I think everybody who considers themselves a gamer NEEDS to complete this game. The plot develops well and the whole thing is truly unique.
5 years on and I still remember this game as if im playing it right now. It's hard to say that about many games.

The game focuses on a young man named Wander who must travel across a vast expanse on horseback and defeat sixteen beings, simply known as colossi,[6] to restore the life of a girl. The game is unusual within the action-adventure genre in that there are no towns or dungeons to explore, no characters with which to interact, and no enemies to defeat other than the colossi.[7][8] Shadow of the Colossus has been described as a puzzle game, as each colossus' weakness must be identified and exploited before it can be defeated.
Shadow of the Colossus is regarded as an important work of art and cited as an influential title due to its minimalist landscape designs, immersive gameplay and emotional journey. It received wide critical acclaim by the media and consistently ranks upon best games lists by publications, as one of the best PS2 games of all time and one of the best games overall. It was met with strong sales compared to Ico, due in part to a larger marketing campaign, and the soundtrack was widely praised. It won several awards for its audio, design, and overall quality. Shadow of the Colossus is also referenced numerous times in debates regarding the art quality and emotional perspectives of videogames.
Honestly, I think everybody who considers themselves a gamer NEEDS to complete this game. The plot develops well and the whole thing is truly unique.

Cant wait for SOTC.
However, for me, Resident Evil 4. At the time great graphics, gory, decent story and LONG! The variety of weapons and enemies were awesome, the bosses were also quite a challenge. I bought it on the gamecube on day one and loved it and then bought it again when it came out on the wii. Just thinking about it makes me want to play it again. Its also my favourite game of all time.
Another one that comes to mind which was also on the GCN is Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. It was also a survival horror game which had gory themes, interesting charcters and a storyline that spanned over 2000 years with you controlling different characters thorughout an interweaving plot. The graphics werent the best, even at that time, but it sure is a good game.
