The Famous YLOD...

Well it finally hit me... Still got my brothers ps3 to play now and then...

Have got some people keen to buy my HDPVR for the same price I scored it 4, so sounds like that could be me to fund a SLIM, probly wait til black-ops comes out, so that I can score it with a bundle pack

Have looked into the heat fix method, and looks promising, but any1 know how long it lasts for? I need to do it anyways, its got a DISC in it lol...

Anyways before my HDPVR gets the green light, any1 feel like a WH group orgy or something lol...

I'm not sure how much life you'll get from the heat fix, from what I've heard it's fairly temporary. You may of course get lucky and get some good life out of it. You can get the disc out without using the heat gun trick though, I got mine out that way when I YLODed. Check this video out:

MJ - Lancers first PS3 YLOD'd back in January. He fixed it himself and it is still working. It is definitely worth a try.

Boss recommends:
that the heat gun be temperature adjustable
you also need thermal paste
follow a video/instructions accurately
be precise
no guarantees the fix lasts for any length of time so backup immediately you get it going if you need to

Did you do the heatgun trick and paste etc etc?

I hired a heatgun from the warehouse, fixed it, returned the heatgun the next day ....

I just bought 1 mate... $49 from bunnings, it only has 2 temps tho but it still did the job. How much was it 2 hire? I also got silver based thermal paste from jaycar for $6.95

Im looking at buying ylod ps3s of ebay for $50 and trying to fix them so i have spares lol

It was rediculously easy, but i was just wondering how long it will last!
