Why is dialogue so soft?

Post  fuchswagen on Tue Jan 11, 2011 5:35 pm

I cant figure it out. I have a really good surround sound system (optical cable ect...) but for some reason I cant hear the in game dialogue for some of my games. The rest of the sound ie explosions, gun fire ect is loud and good, but then I need to switch to 2CH Stereo to be able to hear what the characters are saying in game. Its particularly bad for the ME2 demo. Also if I play normal video clips the sound quality is allot better than when I play games. Are you guys having the same issue sometimes or did I do something wrong in my setup? BTW all the sound modes on my ps3 is supported. Should I only tick certain boxes there?

How are you running the sound through your ps3? I find component to be better than HDMI for audio.
Optical is just the tits for audio.

Play the audio and visual through separate cables to get the best results.

You probably do all this, and if you do then I am out of ideas.

Explain how it is all set up?

I do visual through HDMI and audio through optical. Maybe my sound system sucks. I am thinking to just get myself a pair of PX5 head phones.

Maybe give the red white and yellows a spin for sound. If its still quiet with them then you can cross out the fact that its the optical cord. If it works a charm then you need a new optical maybe. I dunno how it all works but thats an elimination process

I'll try that and see. It's just wierd that I have low sound dialogue in some of my games.

Fuck I am such an idiot. I had to change my front speaker distances and db(was-6db) in settings of the hifi. I can now hear everything super clear in any game. I can't believe I played with shitty sound for 3 years! Thanks you all.
