PlayTV

Post  azza2906 on Thu Sep 17, 2009 3:07 pm

Ok so Ryan brought me back a playTV from UK and it is fuckin tits! I get better reception than with my samsung tv and now wen I work shift work I can keep up to date with my soapies. In the process of putting my 320gig HD in my ps3 and using my 60gig HD from the ps3 into my external hard drive case. I then purchased a 1tb external to put all my stuff that was on my 320 onto it. Long story short... I can now watch, pause and record live tv on my ps3. (except sbs which playtv doesn't get and abc HD cause it stutters). Oh yeah and I can record tv while playing too Smile

Really? What you mean? Literally, you plug it in and get no reception?

New channels, such as GO!, ONE HD, ABC channels, SBS channels that can only be recieved with a digital set top box or digital ready tv.

technically, it's the free-to-air channels getting together to share their EPG's and create a few new channels.

"freeview" is technically also a standard. it's a bit fuzzy, but something to do with "freeview certified" hardware being able to play/display particular video formats... I think at the moment the video for all AUS digital TBV is broadcast as MPEG2, but may be modified in the future to be MP4...

for example, I have a PVR - Beyonwiz DP-P1. It's twin HD tuner with 250GB HDD etc. On paper, it doesn't play MPEG4 video, although I play divX AVI's from over my network so I know it does play some MP4 containers...

Sorry, bit pissed and doing this form vague memory... anyway, the "standard" is not so much about what is currently displayed, but what might be added in the future.

Anyway, my PVR is firmware updateable, so I should be right... did i say i was pissed?? lol
cheers
