PS3 Firmware - downloading it manually

In case anyone wants to manually download the latest PS3 firmware update before it is available on the Playstation website i.e. so they can stick it on a flash drive, open up this text file URL -

The page displayed is a text file.

Within the text file there is a download URL:

Copy and paste this into your address bar and the download will start. It's 150-odd MB.

NB: the above download URL is for firmware 3.00 and will change with future firmware releases.
You must use the text file to find the current/latest download URL.

This is legit - the text file displayed contains the URL for the latest update as used by the PS3 itself.
I have used it several times previously.

CLARIFICATION:
The text file URL is constant, but the contents of the text file (i.e. the update URL) varies with the latest release.
If you note, the update URL contains the date of the release, so you can use this as a double-check.

Also, the current version is there: SystemSoftwareVersion=3.0000

INSTALLATION:
Once you have downloaded PS3UPDAT.PUP, copy it to a flash drive in the path \\PS3\UPDATE\

Plug the flash drive into your PS3's USB port, go into your PS3 XMB and go to System Update and select the local install option.

NB: just double-check your downloaded file is PS3UPDAT.PUP...
Mine had actually defaulted to PS3UPDAT.PUP.PUP

Probably because you already have a file name psupdat.pup - one of the previous updates and so it numbered it

Okay so from what I gather this is a 167mb update that is currently useless?
The only addition this seems to have is the new recommendation feature which isn't live yet.
