PS3 Firmware - downloading it manually

Took about 30 seconds to do on the PS3. It seemed very small.

Okay, safe to say that either Tom has posted the wrong link or the manual file download is a different file from the automatic.

ie, using the automatic method the playstation takes into account your last update and only downloads the needed files instead of including the lot.

Yeah... There is another link for a patch which is only 35mb or something.

Topr used the link I posted and it worked fine.

.41 indicates it isn't a full update.

@Brad - typical that there are no noticeable differences. Maybe something to do with the problems Luke had, could have been dodgy firmware?

Like I said, there is a patch link as well. I can post it but probably no point if it took Luke 30seconds.

It may download necessary files like you said

Every update is there for a reason, whether it being a change to the firmware in prep for a future big update. Who knows?

Who really cares anyway? The updates never take long.

They used to take me over an hour and a half through the ps3 so yeah, I cared.

Yet to try an update through the new net, possibly won't be a problem anymore.

Still like to keep this link updated for people with slower Internet.

I'm referring to the many people that complain about the updates. The PSN is so much better now than what it was at launch date, and that is because of updates.

Nearly everyone in BSK complains when a new update is out, and they all have amazing internet speeds. Complaining for no reason.

two things i noticed as far as menu changes - after you've updated to 3.41, if you go to the "Update via storage device" with the same firmware on your memory stick, then it offers you to reinstall - not sure if this is due to dodgy/failed firmware updates in the past??? Previously if you had 3.xx installed, it would only tell you that it was already installled...

Also, there is an option under "system" to enable auto-updates. It's funny coz I thought this was one of the special things the "plus" gave you....

Nah, auto-updates were just included with the last update.

Plus gives you an automatic download option for store content.

so what's in the new update and how big is it?? cos i'm almost capped.

Off the top of my head, when I went to update, it said something about 3D Bluerays can now be played or something like that...
