Yeah that was my main reasoning... The other laptop I considered had a (Nvidia) GTX 260M but the screen, RAM and processor is much better on the one I picked.
If I want to seriously game I'll use my desktop. The ATI card will still play COD6 on medium graphics if i really want to game on the laptop.

BTW you probably shouldn't downplay ATI cards too much, their best desktop card spanks the best nvidia card Very Happy

really?

i have just had problems in the past

i bought 2 512mb cards at the same time, an ATI one and a nvidia one.

the ATI i tried first, all sorts of system issues that require extra updated drivers that dont come with the cd, like when i went on the internet and scrolled the pages would have weird framerate issues

the nvidia one was plug and play, the way i like it.

i know that the ATI would work if i bothered with all the drivers but they should make their product work straight out of the box

i have had similar things in the past with ATI. that being said i bought the ATI one coz i heard good things about it, pity it didn't just work.

i have had both at various stages of their ascendency i.e. i've bought nvidia when they were top dog and ati when they were.
I've never ever relied on the drivers in the box - always download the latest from the respective support sites... and i've never had problem with either.

by plug-and-play, are you referring to windows supplying the driver? if so, you're really seeing at least several dot-point releases ago compared to the latest from the manufacturer. the same is generally true for the CD in the box - usually well out of date.

p.s. you are a noob!! bom

I'm not paying very much towards it; one of the benefits of being young and living with your parents.
