Should I send it in for repairs, or just buy a slim?

buy a slim

otherwise, you might as well douse your credit card in oil and light it

What's YLOD?
I've gathered you're referring to an issue with you PS3. Is it yellow light of death - don't laugh, just taking a stab in the dark.

$250, but look at the bright side, after 3 break downs they sent me a brand new PS3
Only 1 more to go.

You can turn the power off at the back, hold down eject and then turn it back on again. Sometimes it works.

Gunn, Lancer's PS3 YLOD a while ago and all the instructions and vids on u tube didn't help to eject the disc. Having said that the vids did give him enough info to enable him to fix the ps3 himself (first time with toothpaste lol) and so he could download all the stuff on it. He did buy a slim because he wouldn't sure the self fix would work but the old PS3 is still going and our son plays kiddie games on it.

Found this:
http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-General/disc-stuck-in-PS3-SOLUTION/m-p/33054429

... I put the PS3 on its nose, disc tray down, held the eject button while it was on, and pushed a disc in and out of the drive. This caused whatever was in there to finally 'catch' as the drive had been trying to force everything out...

Hope it helps in some way

The $250 includes a 12 month warranty

but now slims are going for $400 with a game - and as of yet, they don't break down

Gonna try the hairdryer trick tomorrow. If it works ill back up a few saves, get my game out, then trade it in for a 250GB slim.

Hair dryer does not get hot enough, needs to be a heat gun.

Don't risk breaking anything.
