Female Gamers

Post  monkeybrainspit on Sat May 08, 2010 6:21 pm

If you were in charge of the PS3 department at Sony and were asked to come up with something to get more female gamers to buy PS3 products how would you do this?
For example, what kind of games/hardware would you ask your staff to research/develop?

It would be interesting to know what the males members would do too.
I think it would prove most men don't know what women want, lol.
Prove me wrong.

Hopefully they'll see this topic and be enticed to comment. I'm trying to post topics to get the members more involved. 'Trying' being the operative word.

First up - lol at the topic cos I bet there were quite a few guys openning this topic expecting to see pics, not text Very Happy

Secondly - yep I'm female and I'm opinionated so I guess I should respond.

I only got into playing a game (warhawk) on the PS3 because my husband was playing that game. Otherwise I got a PS3 for Singstar and Guitar hero (which I was totally crap at!). Singstar seems to be the only thing on PS3 that sony market to women.

I am loving Vidzone and look forward to Sony having a similar type development for movies/tv.

I also love the online messaging capability. It turns your TV into a vehicle for social contact.

I actually think sony would benefit from releasing pink consoles and pink controllers with a bit of bling on them. I know it sounds cheesy but it will get women looking at PS3's and then their other features could be better marketed.

Oh, and lastly. It would be good to get the game developers to actually think about the fact that women may want to play the games. I've only had exposure to a very limited number of games but they are very 'male' focussed.

Going by the stats, games that include peripherals (Guitar Hero, Singstar, Buzz, etc. Oh and the Wii) are favoured by women.
If I had to make something to attract birds to the PS3, I would try and release something that lets you fuck around with videos and stuff that you could upload to the PS3. Think LittleBigPlanet, but with entirely your own content, and some sort of peripheral to control the game.

Oh and I liked the look and concept of the 'Home' but it was a bit 'dating/chatroom' the few times I ventured there. Too many men, too little women.

That's the problem with the internet.

I do think Gunn's right though, Women seem to respond well to interactive games.
Buzz, Scene It and the Wii.

I'd put a vibrator on it, something like this: (my paint shop skills aren't the best)
