In the latest fiscal report, Sony revealed that the Playstation 3 has hit the expected sales of 13 million units for the 2009 fiscal year.
The total of Playstation 3 units sold so far (as of the end of March this year) worldwide is now at 35.7 million since the system launched in late 2006. Furthermore, Sony is forecasting another 15 million units sold by the end of the next fiscal year. In other words, they are expecting the Playstation 3 to reach 50.7 million units in lifetime sales by March 31, 2010.

2006 Fiscal Year (April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007) – 3.5 million
2007 Fiscal Year (April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008) – 9.1 million
2008 Fiscal Year (April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2009) – 10.1 million
2009 Fiscal Year (April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010) – 13 million

As long as it brings in consumers, in which they buy other playstation products, Sony couldn't care less.
