Portal 2

Post  mrcrowley24 on Wed Jun 30, 2010 7:27 am

http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/705907/Portal-2-E3-2010-Demo-Part-2-And-Part-3.html

Here is some gameplay footage from portal 2. For anyone who didnt get around to portal 1 (its on half-life:the orange box) I highly recommend picking it up, either from steam or on the PS3. Its a puzzler game that is well thought out, funny and is quite lengthy. If you liked braid, then you HAVE to check out the portal series.

First portal was admittedly fun, but only for 20mins. I'll look at reviews post release I think.

Ryno you got a pc set up in wait for "The old republic"?

I think this new portal will be 10X better than the original. It also has co-op (i think) and that could be fun.

Sure do mate. Got a PC up to spec, just waiting to be abused! I have never played an MMO before though so I am not sure how well I will take to it. I am a massive star wars fan though and if anything gets me into the genre, it would be the old republic. Are you interested in mate?

I am, but I have a few problems. One would be my impulsive and obsessive nature, that would make me feel the need to get the biggest and greatest pc around. Next is my current location. The Internet here is terrible.... It wouldn't be worth the frustration.

PC gaming has never really grabbed me however. I hate sitting there with my neck craned for hours. I like reclining!!

The old republic would be soooo good though. Kotr was awesome.

We'll see what happens down the track. Moving out is the first step.

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/18/portal-2-on-ps3-features-cross-platform-chat-multiplayer-and-a/

This is pretty good, PS3 users can chat to PC/MAC users as well as play with them. This is something that hasn't really been done before! Well done Valve!

Imagine the fanboy wars if there was cross game compatibility on the PS3/360 with games like COD.

Unreal Tournament for the PS3 was originally meant to be released with cross platform online play, but because the PC is so easily updated/modified, it would be impossible to keep all three platforms on a level playing field.

Just keeps getting better. You can create your own Portal levels in Portal 2!

Wow, what a great idea, let’s make Portal 2 themed LittleBigPlanet 2 levels!” Right, that would be a good idea, and hopefully someone does, but that’s not quite what we’re talking about here. In fact, it’s slightly more exciting.

Rather than creating Portal 2 themed levels in LittleBigPlanet 2, how about we just go for the money shot and create the levels in Portal 2? That’s what Chet Faliszek, one of Valve’s writers, says we’ll be able to do when the game releases. Thanks to Valve bringing Steam to the PS3, it will be relatively simple to receive updates from it, which will include user generated content created on the PC side of the game. He told NowGamer:

The mod tools have to stay on the PC side just because there’s a bunch of dependencies that require the Windows platform. But the content that comes out is agnostic, and so we will be seeing that on all the platforms. Depending on the platform you’re on I should say, will depend on how we’re delivering it.

It’s about time we see some cross-platform support, and this is a great way to implement it. Portal 2, and many other puzzle games, are perfect for generating loads of user generated content, meaning we’ll have lots of replay value when the game releases later this year. Also, since every one who purchases a PS3 copy of the game and links it to their Steam account gets a free PC version, all PS3 users will have easy access to the PC editing tools for the game. Xbox users will apparently have access to the content as well, although it hasn’t been said how they will receive it. If user content doesn’t interest you as much as the packaged campaign, Chet also told VideoGamer.com that the game would have two endings. They asked if he could give any details and he replied:

Noooooo, come on! The cool thing is that we’ll make sure that the game doesn’t get too difficult – it’s more complex – it’s never so difficult that you can’t solve it. You’ll get to the endings. We’d hate to think that people would only watch the endings on YouTube.

Okay, no spoilers, and we didn’t really want any. It’s good to know that the game won’t be impossible, but at the same time lets hope the different challenge modes return, for those of us who are hardcore puzzlers. In the case that they don’t, we’ll have to make something extra hard for the community to solve. All the pieces are there, and we’re sure to find puzzle elements in the full game that haven’t even been previewed yet. Will you be trying your hand at creating Portal 2 levels when it releases later this spring?

Its going to be 10-11 hours long. Azza borrowed my orange box disc and finished portal 1 in 3 hours!lol So this will be a fully sledged, stand alone game. Can't wait! Co-op looks great. Azza and I are in. Anyone else keen?

Finished the single player. I enjoyed it, I thought it was of good length and a few of the puzzles were a challenge and well thought out. I don't know if this game is complete enough to be by itself, I think if it was part of another game (like Half Life 2:episode 3 if they ever release it!) i would be more suitable. Anyways, Azza and I are going to give the co-op a go and I look forward to connecting to steam when the servers come back up and see what that has to offer!
